Typhoon ‘Falcon’ exits PAR; southwest monsoon death toll rises to 5


QUEZON CITY, July 10 --Typhoon ‘Falcon’ (International name Chan-hom) has left the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) Friday morning, according to state weather bureau PAGASA in its 4:30 a.m. bulletin.

The center of the typhoon was last monitored at 685 km Northeast of Itbayat, Batanes.

‘Falcon’ will still enhance southwest monsoon which will bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains over Luzon and Visayas, PAGASA said.

Five persons were reported dead in due to the southwest monsoon since last weekend, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council in its 8:00 a.m. bulletin. Meanwhile, two persons were injured and four persons were missing.

As of July 10, the NDRRMC also reported 1202 families affected by the enhanced southwest monsoon in Region III, IV-A and National Capital Region (NCR).And 278 passengers, 41 vessels and 38 motorbancas were stranded.

Classes in all levels of public and private institutions are still suspended in some areas of Region III, IV-A and NCR due to the inclement weather.

As of 6 am, water level at La Mesa damwater is at 79.98 meters which is near its spilling level of 80.15 meters, PAGASA said.

Water levels in four other dams which include Angat and Ipo dam in Bulacan, Binga dam in Benguet, San Roque dam in Pangasinan have also increased.

Residents in downstream areas were advised to be alert of possible increase of water level and take precautionary measures.

PAGASA also continues to advise fisherfolks not to venture out in the seaboards of Luzon and Visayas and residents in mountainous and low-lying areas are warned of possible flashfloods and landslide.
