NGP generates over 32,313 jobs in WV

ILOILO CITY, March 4 (PIA) --- The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)-6 said that the National Greening Program (NGP) generated a total of 32,313 jobs in Western Visayas in 2015.

Bing H. Garnace, NGP Regional Coordinator, said that the number of actual jobs created was 40 percent higher than the number of projected jobs created under the Community-Based Employment Program.

Of the 32,313 actual jobs created, Negros Occidental got the largest number of employment with around 9,021 jobs; followed by Iloilo with 7,927; Antique with 6,986; Capiz with 4,015; Aklan with 3,649; and Guimaras with 715 jobs.

Garnace said that 152 people’s organizations (POs) and local government units (LGUs) were involved in the NGP implementation last year.

“A total of 112 are people’s organizations while 40 are local government units,” he said.

Meanwhile, a total of 15 LGUs and five governors were cited for their environmental efforts during the annual meeting of the Regional Multi-Sectoral Forest Protection Committee (RMFPC) held recently at the DENR-6 Activity Center.

The LGUs of Leon, Tubungan and San Joaquin in Iloilo province; Tibiao, Sebaste, Sibalom, Valderrama and Laua-an in Antique province; Dumarao and Tapaz in Capiz province; Libacao-Madalag-Malinao and Malay (Boracay Island) in Aklan province; and the province of Guimaras were cited for coming up with their own Municipal Multi-Sectoral Forest Protection Committee (MMFPC).

The governors of Iloilo, Antique, Aklan, Capiz and Guimaras were also recognized for their initiatives in implementing the NGP. (JCM/LTP/PIA-Iloilo). - See more at: http://news.pia.gov.ph/article/view/2421457071834/ngp-generates-over-32-313-jobs-in-wv#sthash.9QoQjvCh.dpuf
