DTI monitors prices of 225 basic, prime commodities
ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Oct. 5 (PIA) -- A total of 225 basic and
prime commodities are now being monitored by the Department of Trade and
Industry (DTI).
Capiz DTI Provincial Director Ken Queenie Cuñada said 69 more prime and basic commodities have been added to their previous 156 commodities which prices are monitored monthly.
She explained that these products were included in their monitored items because of the call of time and to give way to the consuming public for a wider array of product choices and preferences.
Cuñada, together with the Capiz media, led the conduct of price monitoring in a mall in Roxas City on October 2.
She said the price monitoring for all products including those in the Expanded Suggested Retail Prices (SRPs) is done regularly to ensure that the public are protected against unscrupulous sellers for going beyond the SRP.
In the previous years, Capiz has the lowest price of products monitored by DTI, even lower than the SRP set by the government, she said.
She also called on the public to be vigilant and be aware of the SRP and report violations thereof to the agency for appropriate action.
On the other hand, Cuñada said they have lined up various activities in view of the Consumer Welfare month celebration this October with the theme “Making Digital Marketplaces Fairer.”
The celebration, she said, reiterates DTI’s commitment in reinforcing its services, programs and activities to protect the interests of the consumers.
Included in this year’s celebration here are the conduct of consumer welfare and product quality and safety exhibit; information caravan; consumer quiz contest both for provincial and regional levels; search for best advocacy program on consumerism; and the Bagwis program. (LTP/JBG/PIA6-Capiz)
