President Duterte’s Governance Roadmap for Peace, Security and Development Outlined Before the UN General Assembly
“Today,
the Philippines, once again, is privileged to renew its commitment to
the cause of peace, security and sustainable development through key
priority areas and advocacies identified in the 2030 Agenda,” Secretary
Yasay said.
“The
global action to transform our world illuminates the urgency and
importance of our efforts in the Philippines to explore new horizons and
break new grounds anchored on our unremitting commitment as a democracy
to the rule of law, to the well-being of our sovereign people, and to
remain a responsible partner of the international community,” the
Secretary added.
Outlining
President Rodrigo R. Duterte’s governance roadmap for peace, security
and development, Secretary Yasay discussed the following key policy
priorities:
On
Commitment to the Rule of Law, strict adherence to due process fully
governs the national campaign against corruption and criminality,
including the fight against illegal drugs.
On
Commitment to the Filipino People, the Philippines, continues to
enhance the delivery and quality of basic social services to the
Filipino people, anchored on the implementation of a human approach to
development and governance and pursuant to the 2030 Agenda for
Sustainable Development.
On
Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction, the Philippines reiterates
its call for climate justice and the principle of equity and common but
differentiated responsibilities (CBDR) in the implementation of
obligations under the Paris Agreement.
On
Commitment to Peace and the International Community, the Philippines
reaffirms its abiding commitment to pursue the peaceful resolution and
management of disputes in the South China Sea, following the arbitral
award of the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague, which is final
and binding on all parties.
Secretary
Yasay was joined by Madame Cecile Joaquin Yasay, DFA Undersecretary for
Policy, Enrique A. Manalo; DFA Undersecretary for Civilian Security and
Consular Concerns Ariel Y. Abadilla; Philippine Permanent
Representative to the UN, H.E. Lourdes O. Ypparraguirre; OPAPP
Undersecretary Diosita T. Andot; UNIO Assistant Secretary Bayani S.
Mercado; Consul General Mario L. De Leon, Jr.; members of the Philippine
Delegation, Officers and Staff of the Philippine Permanent Mission to
the UN and the Philippine Consulate General in New York.
The
High-Level General Debate at the UN from September 20-26 will have 192
Heads of State, Heads of Government, Vice Presidents, a Crown Prince,
Deputy Prime Ministers, Ministers, Vice Ministers and Chairs of
Delegations, delivering their respective national statements before the
General Assembly.
“The
Philippines, as a Founding Member of the United Nations, walks and
works with the community of nations in truly transforming our world
where the universal values of equality, tolerance and human dignity must
prevail,” Secretary Yasay concluded. END
