Baler on full alert due to 'Jolina'

BALER, Aurora -- The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) has appealed to residents to be always ready as tropical storm "Jolina" is expected to hit the province Friday night.

MDRRMO chief Gabriel Llave, in a pre-disaster risk assessment meeting Friday afternoon, said they are now on full alert status and efforts are geared up to ensure the safety of the residents.

He said that at present, the MDRRMO is on standby to attend to possible damages that may affect the peoples’ livelihood, infrastructures, and agricultural facilities in areas that might be hit by tropical storm "Jolina".

He said MDRRMO also asked barangay officials of this town to monitor the weather and warn their communities regarding the situation.

Part of the preparedness efforts, he said, is an information drive on what precautionary measures people must take ahead of the storm.

Llave likewise said the MDRRMO has already activated its 24/7 operation center and has assigned additional staff to monitor and ensure the dissemination of weather advisories thru SMS, radio messages, letters and website updates to barangay disaster risk reduction and management councils.

"We already activated one rescue team to monitor the weather disturbance especially in the evening," he said.
He added that his office has also released directives to the barangays, local fisherfolks federations and passenger vessels that they are not allowed to venture out at sea.

He also urged the public to follow the safety tips like keeping all channels of communication open and ready – including having fully-charged mobile phones, laptops, radios, and other communication gadgets.

“We also conducted inspections of the town's identified evacuation centers, including our assessment and readiness of our search and rescue team in terms of manpower and equipment,” he added. (PNA)
