President Duterte graces 17th Founding Anniversary of Digos City; calls for a unified effort to attain inclusive growth
President Rodrigo Roa Duterte on
Friday, September 8, graced the 17th founding anniversary of Digos City
in Davao del Sur, stressing how the “Araw ng Digos” celebration
signifies the Mindanaoans’ collective aspiration for the continuing
progress of the locality and the entire region.
“I express my warmest greetings to all of you in this remarkable milestone in Digos City’s history,” the President said during his speech.
“Let this celebration serve as a moment of meaningful thanksgiving and celebration for the strides that you have made all these years. All of you, regardless of the role you play, are instrumental in the pursuit of peace and progress,” he added.
The Chief Executive commended the solidarity and cooperation among the people of Digos as they try to fulfill the crucial task of fostering sustainable growth and development in their city.
He further noted that the people’s enduring determination and perseverance paved the way for the city to blossom into a progressive locality, which he said is also key to the entire development of the province of Davao del Sur.
“As the province’s capital city, it is an invaluable force to the attainment of socio-economic advancement in the region, to its thriving agricultural and commercial enterprises,” President Duterte said.
He then urged the local government to remain inspired and steadfast in achieving greater things for their constituents, as well as in building a more progressive future for the next generation of Mindanaoans.
The President also called on his fellow officials in government to continue their commitment in harnessing more viable opportunities for the people, especially the marginalized sectors of society.
“The quality of their lives will always be the benchmark of our success in governance,” he said.
The Chief Executive likewise vowed to push for valuable programs for the Mindanao region, and to spearhead more government efforts that will promote inclusive growth throughout the country.
“Rest assured that the task of making meaningful change will continue to fuel our urgency to suppress the ills that plague our society,” President Duterte assured.
“I enjoin all of you to continue upholding the spirit of bayanihan in our shared mission of building a stronger nation,” he added.
Meanwhile, President Duterte directed Philippine National Police (PNP) director general Ronald dela Rosa to look closely into the possible sabotage on the PNP.
“Better, nandito si PNP Chief… Silipin mong mabuti kasi… sinasabotahe kayo. Sinasadya talaga ‘yan,” Duterte said.
He added that during a massive rally, he will order the military to stay in their barracks while the police will only be helping minimize the traffic.
“Ibigay mo ‘yung space sa kanila. And they can shout all day…Huwag mong patulan,” he said. “All military men, wala diyan. No show of force. Police is sa istasyon lang. Just leave somebody to manage the traffic, period. Hayaan mo ‘yan,” Duterte said.
The President also reiterated that he will stand by the police as long as it is in the performance of their duty.
“Pero ‘yung mag-salvage ng tao, ‘yun. You do not do that… Kalokohan ‘yan… Just follow the law,” he said. ###PND
