‘Vinta’ weakens into tropical depression

Tropical Storm “Vinta” (international name: Tembin) has weakened into a tropical depression after inflicting damage in areas in Mindanao, the state weather bureau said.

Vinta was last tracked over Sominot, Zamboanga del Sur as it moved west at 20 kilometers per hour (kph), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in its 5:00 p.m. bulletin.

The tropical depression packed maximum sustained winds of 60 kph with gusts of up to 90 kph, the state weather bureau said.

Pagasa warned residents anew of flooding and landslides in Visayas and Western Mindanao as moderate to occasionally heavy rains will prevail within 24 hours.

All areas placed under Storm Warning Signal No. 2 were also downgraded to Signal No. 1, Pagasa said. Storm signals elsewhere were lifted.

The state weather bureau said that sea travel remains risky over seaboards of areas placed under the storm warning signal.

Signal No. 1 was raised over Southern Negros Occidental, Southern section of Negros Oriental and Siquijor.
