DAVAO CITY – President Rodrigo Roa Duterte on
Wednesday, July 18, vowed to further improve the healthcare system in
the country in a bid to provide a more comfortable life for the
Filipinos.
The Chief Executive made his commitment during the 85th Annual National Convention of the Philippine Public Health Association held at Grand Regal Hotel in Lanang, Davao City.
In his speech, President Duterte stressed that providing a proper healthcare system for Filipinos is a “top priority” of government.
Duterte urged the members of the association to work closely with government as it endeavours to provide better healthcare system for the Filipino people.
He said his administration will continue to work on improving the Philippine healthcare system gradually until such time that all healthcare services are free, noting that sudden changes may lead to a financial “shortfall.”
“Ngayon, we will be suffering a shortfall maybe, in the money that is available now if we go into the universal healthcare — na libre na lahat,” he said.
“We are always open for what is good for the Filipino, and I will not hesitate to spend money basta diyan. Binubuhos ko talaga ang pera pagka diyan na,” he added.
He likewise advised health personnel to work closely with barangay health workers in monitoring health situations in the communities.
“You are better being close to the barangay health workers or to the doctor assigned in the particular area where you can dialogue with him every now and then. And you can map out plans on how to do it,” said Duterte.
This year’s two-day convention with the theme “Make Things Happen Through Change”, seeks to help government fulfill its mandate of achieving genuine and lasting change in society. ###PND
