DILG's statement on the Zamboanga City mosque blastJanuary 31, 2019

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) strongly condemns Wednesday’s bombing of a mosque in Barangay Talon-Talon, Zamboanga City, barely three days after the twin blasts that hit Jolo Cathedral.

These brazen attacks on our people in their places of worship where they thought they were safe from harm manifest the height of cruelty and callousness of these terrorists.

We are infuriated by this latest atrocity this time against our Muslim brothers and sisters at a time when our nation is on the cusp of giving Muslim areas in Mindanao greater autonomy.

We thus order the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Zamboanga City to be on full alert status and to intensify the checkpoints in key areas of the city as well as the security measures in the places of worship of both Muslims and Christians and in crowded spaces. Let us not to rest until the perpetrators are unmasked and made to account for their heinous crime.

The Department extends its deepest sympathies to the families and loved ones of the two persons killed by the explosion and hopes for the speedy recovery of the four people injured during the blast.

We assure everyone that the government is working double time for lasting peace in the country where Muslims and Christians co-exist in harmony and peace.
