LEGAZPI CITY—President Rodrigo Roa Duterte arrived
here on Thursday to assess the damage of Typhoon Tisoy and instructed
local government units (LGUs) to submit their reports to the national
government for the immediate release of money for the relief and
rehabilitation efforts in affected areas.
“Parating lang ninyo ‘yung report then we will take over and I will advise you accordingly kung kailan dadating ang pera,” President Duterte said during the situation briefing on the effects of Typhoon Tisoy in Bicol region at the Legazpi Convention Center.
“It would be good to — for the entire government agencies who are here, beginning from DSWD (Department of Social Welfare and Development) ends up with the Department of Trade to submit your report immediately so that they can pass it on to the proper agency concerned,” the President said.
Money is the only problem of the LGUs when calamities hit their areas, according to the President.
The Chief Executive also assured that LGUs affected by the typhoon
will get the money they need for relief operations and reconstruction.
“The only thing is how fast. Wala kayong problema sa akin because I’m a very impatient person,” he noted. “I usually do my bidding minsan sa mga — not to bide their time — but ‘yung apurado ako, especially itong calamities and crises.”
So far, the President said he is pleased by the response of concerned national agencies and the LGUs in the Bicol region. “I am more than satisfied by the response.”
A total of 125,857 families were affected by the typhoon with some 114,570 families or 459,147 individuals housed in 2,137 evacuation centers across the region.
The government also provided assistance to 11,093 families or 46, 213 individuals who are not staying in evacuations centers.
Typhoon Tisoy has destroyed 328 houses while 6,382 were partially damaged.
