Police, military should take credit for country’s high score in Gallup report, says President Duterte

The police and the military should be given credit for maintaining peace and order in the country after the Philippines scored high in the 2020 Global Law and Order report released recently, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte said on Thursday.

Addressing the nation on government’s response on the coronavirus pandemic, President Duterte said he was surprised when he read the briefer on the Philippines’s standing on the recent law and order report.

“We are on the Top 50 and we are lumped with countries that are really ideally peaceful,” he said.

“So, if it’s a recent Gallup survey, it only shows that, well, we have to credit the police and the military and the other uniformed services of government who have toiled to make this country at least very peaceful.”

The Philippines landed in the list of Top 50 nations with good peace and order, according to the Washington-based analytics and advisory firm Gallup after releasing its 2020 Global Law and Order report.

The Philippines was included in the list of 50 countries with good peace and order with a score of 84/100. Similar scores were posted by Australia, New Zealand, Poland, and Serbia.

The 2020 Global Law and Order report is based on the people’s sense of personal security and experiences with crime and law enforcement in the country.

President Duterte campaigned on a platform of eliminating illegal drugs, criminality, and corruption in the country when he vied for the presidency in 2016. PND
