Duterte Legacy Summit: The final report to the Filipino people

MANILA-– In a month’s time, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte will step down from office with a myriad of success stories and accomplishments that changed the lives of Filipinos for the past six years.

As the final report to the people, the Presidential Communications Operations Office, through the Office of the Global Media and Public Affairs (OGMPA), will showcase a summary of the Duterte administration’s achievements through the Duterte Legacy Summit to be held from May 30 to 31 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City.

Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea will deliver the keynote speech and Cabinet Secretary Melvin Matibag will give the closing remarks.

“The two-day event will be our last act of thanking and recognizing the ‘tapang at malasakit’ governance of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, his cabinet members, and all public servants which have brought impactful changes and meaningful developments to the Filipino people,” PCOO Secretary and Acting Presidential Spokesperson Martin M. Andanar said.

“This summit will also serve as a culminating activity of our Duterte Legacy campaign that promotes the landmark programs and achievements of the Duterte administration in all sectors of the community,” he added.

Some cabinet officials will present their last reports to the public including their accomplishments, policies, and projects that improved the lives of Filipinos for the past six years. Beneficiaries of certain government projects and programs will also share their success stories and testimonials.

The Duterte administration’s six Cabinet clusters will report on their achievements based on the government’s 10-point socioeconomic agenda namely Security, Justice, and Peace, Infrastructure Development, Economic Development, Climate Change Adaptation, Mitigation, and Disaster Risk Reduction, Participatory Governance, and Human Development and Poverty Reduction.

The summit will also feature key campaign promises of the Duterte administration that were realized such as the Universal Health Care Law and Malasakit Center, Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education, Bangsamoro Organic Law, anti-illegal drugs campaign, and migrant workers’ protection.

Cabinet members and heads of agencies will share the impact of these programs complemented by beneficiaries who will testify how the President’s legacies have given them a more comfortable life.

In January 2020, the PCOO launched the Duterte Legacy campaign to highlight the accomplishments of the Duterte administration and tell the stories of those who benefitted from them. As part of the campaign, the agency conducted caravans, town hall meetings in different provinces, and produced short documentaries, publications, and other digital campaign materials.

The PCOO and its attached agencies will provide full coverage of this two-day event through the People’s Television Network (PTV) for media coverage and Radio Television Malacañang (RTVM) for online livestreaming on Facebook and YouTube.

On the sidelines of the event, The Virtual Presser (TVP) will be held after the program for the local and international media.

PCOO and the Bureau of Communications Services (BCS) will also have a Duterte Legacy Photo Exhibit featuring significant and momentous events made by the administration since July 2016.

“This is our final report. This will leave a lasting and remarkable mark to the public on how the Duterte administration did its job in the name of public service,” Secretary Andanar said.

Coinciding with the event, Secretary Andanar will also unveil the PCOO Legacy book featuring the accomplishments and much improved operations of the agency and its attached agencies. The book also features the government’s advanced and intensified methods of communications in order to reach more Filipinos.

“The legacy book is an overview of how the PCOO became a primary catalyst of change in government communications and media operations towards the general growth and improvement of the country,” he cited.

“With our utmost dedication to serve the public, it is also our duty to report our accomplishments and developments that we reached since July 2016 until the last day of President Duterte,” Secretary Andanar concluded.
