DepEd to prioritize 1,000 TP graduates hiring
PASIG CITY, May 16 -- Department of Education (DepEd) signed a memorandum of agreement with Philippine Business for Education (PBEd) that will prioritize the hiring of 1,000 Teachers Program (1000 TP) graduates in the public schools.
The 1000 TP is a flagship scholarship program of PBEd that seeks to uplift the image and quality of the teaching profession by attracting the best and the brightest to joining the teaching ranks.
Promising high school graduates, who are part of the top ten percent (10%) of their graduating class, are recruited and given four-year B.S. Education scholarships in select schools all over the country. Scholars may major in Math, Science, English, Elementary, or Early Childhood Education and are required to maintain an average of B to stay in the program.
The scholarship includes free tuition and miscellaneous fees care of PBEd’s reputable partner teaching institutions (TEIs), P2,000 monthly allowance, P2,000 semestral book allowance, and LET review and exam fees. Immediately after passing the LET, scholars are required to teach in a local public school for five years as return service.
The 1000 TP agreement between PBEd and DepEd is in support of the Department teacher requirementunder the K-12 program which the Asian Development Bank estimates at 84,616 items for around two million senior high school students in 2017.(DepEd)
