Roxas bares P641-million budget for 477 anti-poverty projects in CAMSUR May 28, 2014
Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas said today
a total of P641,406,240 has been allocated by the National Government
for various anti-poverty programs and projects in Camarines Sur.Roxas said that the budget has been allocated by the National Government through the Grassroots Participatory Budgeting Process (GPBP) and will cover a total of 477 projects in two cities and 34 towns across the province.
The DILG chief made the announcement during a visit on May 27 to inspect on-going and completed projects funded by the National Government through the DILG in the province.
During his visit, Roxas, vice chairman for preparedness of the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) also met with local governments, police, fire and jail officials to get updates on their respective disaster preparedness activities.
This year, the towns of Baao, Balatan, Bato, Bombon, Camaligan, Canaman, Del Gallego, Garchitorena, Lupi, Magarao, Milaor, Presentacion, Sagnay, San Fernando, San Jose, Siruma, Tigaon, Ocampo, and Pamplona will all receive P15 million each. Cabugao will get P14.98 million.
Buhi will receive P23 million; Bula, P21.5 million; Calabanga, P24 million; Goa, P17 million; Caramoan, P17 million; Iriga City, P24 million; Lagonoy, P17 million; Libmanan, P33 million; Minalabac, P17 million; Nabua, P19.9 million; Ragay, P18 million; Sipocot, P20 million; Tinambac, P24 million; Naga City, P30 million, Pasacao, P16 million and Pili, P20 million.
Expected to result in positive impact to the people is the installation of potable water system in Barangay Sta. Eulalia in the town of Baao, wherein 296 households in Sta. Eulalia, Baao, and nearby barangays that are underserved will finally have their own source of drinking water. The project has been allocated P1.7 million.
In the town of Balatan, the P4 million “Promotion of Organic Farming” project will be implemented in 17 barangays benefitting 5,405 farmers and farm workers.
On the other hand, the provision of medical equipment, medical supplies and medicines that will benefit the entire municipality has been allocated P1.27 million.
In the town of Bombon, the Construction of Water Supply System Project with a budget of P15 million will benefit seven of the town’s eight barangays.
In the town of Bula, one of the identified priority projects is the construction of a temporary shelter for women and children who are victims of violence, including children in conflict with the law and abused or abandoned children. The project has a budget allocation of P2.45 million.
Meanwhile, a birthing facility in New Poblacion will benefit residents of nine barangays in the town of Cabusao. The project has a budget allocation of close to P4 million.
In Caramoan, the Gibgos-Mampirao farm-to-market will be constructed. It has a budget of P11.9 million. The project is expected to benefit farmers and residents of various barangays along the stretch of the proposed P3.9 kms road improvement project.
Roxas said that the projects have been identified by people’s organizations, nongovernment organizations and community-based groups during the conduct of a People’s Assembly last year.
Some of these projects are “high impact” projects that will help improve the lives of farmers and fishermen, provide livelihood and improve basic education in the province.
“Marami sa mga proyektong ito ay makakatulong para iangat ang kabuhayan ng maraming lugar sa Camarines Sur. Naging posible ang mga proyektong ito dahil sa natipid nating pondo bunga ng malinis na pamamahala,” Roxas said.
Camarines Sur is the largest among six provinces in the Bicol Region.
The National Government has allocated a total of P20 billion for various anti-poverty projects across the country through the GPBP this year.
The bulk of the P20-billion budget were sourced from Department of Agriculture (P9.286 billion); Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD); (P2.638 billion); DILG (P2.476 billion); Department of Education (P1.449 billion); and Department of Health (P1.355 billion).
Other implementing agencies include Department of Agrarian Reform (P574 million); Department of Labor and Employment (P507 million); TESDA (P423 million); Department of Environment and Natural Resources (P417 million); Department of Energy (P97 million); and National Electrification Administration (P78 million). #
