35K admin raps vs. erring cops resolved since July 2016

MANILA – Almost 95 percent of administrative cases against erring police officers have been resolved, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Wednesday.

Citing its latest data, PNP chief Gen. Dionardo Carlos said this is equivalent to 35,297 out of 37,124 cases handled by its Internal Affairs Service (IAS) from July 2016 to Jan. 12, 2022, adding that the remaining cases are still subject to further investigation while making sure that due process is upheld.

Meanwhile, Carlos said more than 20,000 PNP personnel have been meted with penalties depending on the gravity of the offense committed, most of whom were slapped with suspension.

Some 5,000 police officers were also dismissed from the service from July 2016 to December 2021.

“It is with deep sadness to know that the PNP is stained with erring cops. These undesirable members of the organization must face the consequences of their actions. But their demeanor must not be construed as a system bloodline. We give appreciation to our principle-minded comrades who continue to advocate for righteousness,” Carlos said.

He said public service means embracing scrutiny which is an integral part of their mission to grow together as a mature organization.

Carlos added the PNP’s regular audit of line units remains operational in a bid to end corrupt practices in the service. (PNA)
