President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is expecting more key infrastructure undertakings to be completed after he inaugurated the PhP8.03-billion Panguil Bay Bridge Project (PBBP) on Friday.
He said the launching of the project aims to set the momentum for the government to carry out other major projects in the country.
“Let us make this success a launchpad for further development to ensure that this project opens new doors for progress and prosperity, he said.
“Hindi po tayo nagtatapos dito sa ating pag-uusap ngayong araw na ito. It is just the beginning. We are building a Bagong Pilipinas—one where every Filipino, no matter how far, no matter how remote, is somehow connected,” he added.
The President thanked the government’s partners in the Korean government and the Korean Export-Import Bank, as well as to the DPWH, and to all the people who committed to finish the project.
Costing over PhP8.03 billion, the 3.16-kilometer infrastructure is now the longest water-spanning bridge in Mindanao.
The PBBP was previously considered by the NEDA as a problematic infrastructure flagship project (IFP) due to funding problems that caused construction delays.
In June this year, the NEDA Board chaired by President Marcos approved the PhP650.89-million increase in total project cost from PhP7.38 billion to PhP8.03 billion.
With the bridge’s opening, the more than two hour travel from Tangub City in Misamis Occidental to Tubod town, Lanao del Norte, is cut to just seven minutes, and will benefit more than 10,000 travelers a day. |PND
