DND to Pinoys: Emulate Bonifacio’s courage amid security challenges
MANILA – Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. on Friday called on all Filipinos to draw strength from Gat Andres Bonifacio's courage, as the country continues to face various security challenges.
"His story of rising from humble beginnings to leading the fight against a formidable adversary resonates with the personnel of the DND, who are entrusted with the mandate to safeguard the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of the Philippines," Teodoro said in a statement.
The country will mark on Saturday the 161st birthday of Bonifacio, also known as the Great Plebeian, with the theme "Filipino Unity: Foundation for a Free and Prosperous People".
"In the face of existing and emerging challenges to our national security, including external attempts to erode our independence from within, may we all continue to draw strength from Bonifacio's courage, resilience, and love of country," Teodoro said.
He also urged all Filipinos to honor Bonifacio's legacy by protecting the safety, well-being, and freedom of the Filipino people, which Bonifacio and generations of heroes sacrificed their lives for.
"As the founder of the Katipunan, Bonifacio championed the cause of freedom from oppression, the pursuit of equality, and the restoration of dignity for those who endured centuries of colonial rule," the DND chief said. (PNA)
