DSWD hails women’s strength as society’s compass

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Social Welfare and Development said on Friday that the strength of women is the guide to a better society.

“The DSWD has great confidence in the strength of women. Their strength serves as a guide towards a liberated, caring, and progressive society,” said DSWD Assistant Secretary Romel Lopez.

Lopez made the statement in the celebration of International Women’s Day on March 8.

The DSWD also expressed gratitude to the women-volunteers of its Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan – Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS) program.

According to Lopez, 63 percent of its volunteers in the program are composed of women.

“An important proof of this is the solidarity of women in our agency’s programs to continuously develop their communities. Just like in KALAHI-CIDSS where 63 percent of volunteers are women,” Asst. Sec. Lopez added.

“The DSWD is deeply thankful to our women volunteers. You can rest assured that we will continue to improve our programs and services to strengthen and give you more opportunities for your communities to prosper,” Asst. Sec. Lopez ended.

The KALAHI-CIDSS is a program which aims to address poverty in local communities through social inclusion and sustainable development.
