Marcos putting finishing touches on 5th SONA – Palace
In a press briefing, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said Marcos himself has been writing his SONA.
“Sa ngayon po, ang Pangulo po ay malapit na matapos at niri-review ang kaniyang speech (As of now, the President is nearly finished and is reviewing his speech),” she said.
Castro declined to disclose details about the topics or issues expected to be covered in Marcos’ annual address. She said the President is almost done reviewing the speech but added that she has yet to see or hear its final version.
“Kung anong sasabihin po siguro ng Pangulo sa SONA ay mas magandang mapakinggan natin ito sa Lunes (It would be better for us to hear whatever the President has to say in the SONA on Monday),” she said.
Castro said the administration’s accomplishments would “definitely” be included in the President’s report to the nation.
She added that she expects Marcos to tackle a wide range of priorities, noting that she has seen some of the topics being considered but not the complete speech.
She also declined to comment on whether Marcos would discuss the filing of cases involving personalities linked to flood control anomalies, saying authorities could only pursue charges once sufficient evidence has been established.
Pressed on whether the impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte had been discussed in relation to the SONA, Castro said the matter was not taken up.
She urged everyone to wait for the President’s SONA on Monday rather than speculate about its contents.
“Hindi ko mabibigay kung ano man. Ayoko munang pangunahan ang Pangulo, most probably by Sunday ay tapos na iyon, pero hindi ko pa rin maibibigay sa inyo ang pinaka-nilalaman ng kaniyang speech (I can't disclose anything yet. I don't want to preempt the President. Most probably, it will be finished by Sunday, but I still cannot share the actual contents of his speech),” Castro said.
Malacañang earlier said Marcos’ penultimate SONA on July 27 will be simple yet dignified, with no celebrity directors or star-studded performances. (PNA)
