President Marcos hopes to leave a culture of dev’t, sustained nation-building in 2028

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Friday said he hopes to leave a legacy of sustained development and nation-building, anchored on stronger public trust and confidence in government, when his term in office ends.

The President said that while he was hesitant to speak about his legacy, he hoped to leave behind a government that works “hand-in-hand with every citizen, with every sector, trying to make the Philippines and the lives of our people better.”

President Marcos made the remarks during the question-and-answer session of the Presidential Luncheon organized by the Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines (FOCAP) in Manila, in response to a question about the legacy he hopes to leave at the end of his term in 2028.

The Chief Executive said he envisions a government that creates more jobs, increases livelihood, brings development, and tries to be part of the global economy.

“That’s what we are trying to do. That’s what I hope that we will leave when the time comes in 2028. When the time comes, when we leave, that is what I hope that we will leave behind is this culture of development, of nation building,” the President said.

“If I can do that, if I have met with even some success to do that, then I will say that we have done a reasonably good job. We will never have done a perfect job, but we will have done a reasonably good job,” President Marcos added.

To achieve this goal, the Chief Executive emphasized the important role of local governments, noting his long experience in local government.

A more empowered local government brings government closer to the people, giving leaders and decision-makers a better idea of what people are concerned about, President Marcos noted.

“Because the local government knows the situation in their area better than anybody else, better than the President, better than the Cabinet secretaries, better than anybody else,” the President said. | PND
