Palace calls for multi-sectoral collaboration vs. misinformation, disinformation

Malacañang on Friday called for a concerted effort among government agencies, mainstream media, and responsible social media users to combat misinformation and disinformation, which could undermine public interest and the country’s sovereignty.

Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro noted the need for coordinated efforts to counter false information and protect the public from misleading content.

“Lahat ng ahensiya ng gobyerno, kailangan lahat tayo ay magkaisa, dahil lumalala na ang fake news,” Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said in a press briefing in Batac City, Ilocos Norte.

“So, ang kailangan natin para mas maging maganda ang relasyon, mas maging coordinated ang bawat kilos ng bawat ng mga taga-media, pati ng gobyerno, kailangan lang natin puksain ang mga fake news na ito,” she added.

Aside from the PCO and the Palace, Castro said the government also needs help from mainstream media and responsible vloggers, bloggers, and social media users.

The Palace official said misinformation could be defeated if mainstream media organizations immediately call it out and inform the public whenever they spot news or information that is not factual. | PND
