President Marcos only wants to protect the Philippines’ interests — Palace

Malacañang on Friday underscored the Marcos administration’s commitment to maintaining cordial relations with China through diplomatic dialogue while protecting Philippine sovereignty and national interests in the West Philippine Sea.

Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro made the statement following President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s call for a discussion with the Chinese ambassador over remarks on the possible use of force.

President Marcos on Friday said the Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines’ remarks suggesting China could easily win if it resorts to force warrant a discussion, describing the statement as sounding like a threat and inconsistent with diplomatic conduct.

The President attended the Philippine Coast Guard’s (PCG) 125th founding anniversary celebration at the Eva Macapagal Super Terminal in Manila when reporters asked him for comments on the Chinese Ambassador’s statement.
